On Sunday October 12, 2013 Yasuyuki Hiratsuka passed away suddenly.
Yasu was an incredibly kind and compassionate man who had a profound impact on everyone he met. A globally recognized expert in Mycology, Yasu was a passionate scientist who, at almost 80 years of age, still made significant contributions to his field and maintained collaborations around the world. Yasu was very active in the Japanese community, as well as with his church and was generous with his time helping those in need.
He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Haruko, in 2000 and his son-in-law, Chris Earle in 2013. His loss will be felt by his children: his son Koji and daughter-in-law Ursula, his son Joji and his daughter Kanako. Yui, Tony, Stefan and Erik, who were truley Yasu’s pride and joy, will miss their adored grandfather. It was tremendously fortunate that Yui was able to comfort Yasu in his last moments so he was not alone.
