With deepest sadness we announce the passing of William Hopchin on February 2, 2013 the last of his generation who sought a new life in Canada. William was born in 1913, at Humeniv, Ivano-Frankivs’ka Oblast, Ukraine. When William was six months old his family immigrated to Canada and homesteaded near Spedden, Alberta.
Bill, a man of deep faith and conviction, lived a very loving, highly creative and fruitful life. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Lenore–semicolon– sons, Bruce (Maria), Robert (Liz), Ken (Beth), Greg (Debbie), Colin (Melody)–semicolon– grandchildren, Chris (Tracie) of Abu Dhabi, UAE, Ian (Janel), Tim (Katrina), Erin (Jeff) Toreson, Noah, Emma (Ben) Fortier, Ethan, Joel, James, Kelly–semicolon– great-grandchildren Carter William Hopchin and Hannah Elle Toreson–semicolon– in-laws John (Ruth) Calder, Kay (Ian) Wilson of Vancouver, and Iris Calder. Bill also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Dmytro and Karolina (Lesniak)–semicolon– brothers, Peter and Paul in infancy, Matthew Hapchyn–semicolon– sisters, Nancy Kirillo, Anne Tchir, Kate Dumka, Helen Filewich, and Eva Kondruk.
We would like to thank all those who so lovingly shared his life’s journey. We would also like to thank the caregivers of the Citadel Care Centre and the Sturgeon Hospital both in St. Albert.
Cremation has taken place. Reverend Leo Floyd will officiate a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Basilica (10044-113 Street) on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
