It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” McFadden on April 23rd, 2021, just weeks before his 89th birthday.
A gentle, kind and thoughtful man, Bill was always present with a big smile and large heart, ready to listen and offer a hand or guidance when needed. A loving husband and father, he will be fondly remembered by all those who knew him for the sparkle in his eyes, his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, and his delightful sense of humour.
Born in Apsley, Ontario, Bill travelled west at the age of 17 seeking work and adventure. After arriving in Edmonton, he worked as a firefighter and later as the manager of a retail and manufacturing business, before founding Canfab Products in 1984.
Bill loved spending time with his family, in his garden and in the outdoors. The mountains became a favorite second home, and Bill loved for family to gather, spend time together, play games and share stories. A love of being on the road meant very many special and memorable family vacations. Bill also loved exploring the wider world abroad with Rose, his loving wife of over 64 years, capturing their travels in meticulously kept photo albums and records which we treasure along with the family history he compiled.
Now on another journey, Bill is in our hearts and in our thoughts and prayers until we meet again.
Bill is survived by Rose; his children, Laurie McFadden (Anne), Karen Brideau, Greg McFadden and Kathy Zubick (Paul); his grandchildren, Katie, Will, Michael, Gillian, Jaimie, Clayton, Scott, Travis (Teri), Krista (Tom), Laura and Jack; and his great grandchildren, Casey, Olivia, Ella and Fraser.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Bessie McFadden; his brothers, Victor, John and Donald; and his son-in-law, Rod Brideau.
A family Funeral Service is being held to honour Bill’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute.
