It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather on Dec. 15, 2020, at the age of 95. Bill is survived and will be forever remembered by his four children: Stewart (Shirley), Donna (Roger), Ross, Rod (Beverly) and three grandchildren, Stefanie, Melanie and Jeffrey (Robyn).
He was predeceased by his sister, Jeanette; his brothers, Henry and John; and his beloved wife, Mary in 2010.
Bill was born on June 6, 1925 in the Telfordville, Alberta area and began his 41-year career with Esso when he was 17 years old. In 1948 he married Mary and they raised their four children in Edmonton, enjoying summers at Bill’s hobby farm near Thorsby and at their cabin at Island Lake.
In his retirement, Bill restored a 1955 Buick Roadmaster, and he and Mary went to Campbell River several times to salmon fish. They wintered in Arizona for 24 years and Bill returned there for another eight years after Mary’s passing. Bill will be remembered for his ability to live life to the fullest and for his independent spirit!
Special thanks to the caring staff at Emmanuel Home and at the Fort Saskatchewan and Royal Alexandra hospitals for providing care and support to Bill in his last weeks.
A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in Edmonton, 8440 – 112 Street NW Edmonton, AB, T6G 2B7.
