George Wendell Thomas Jones was born and raised in Woodstock, New Brunswick. He left home at an early age to seek adventure, fame, and fortune. He traveled north to build the DEW line, followed by several years spent working all over Eastern Canada. He eventually landed in Newfoundland, where he met and fell in love with Lorraine Dyke. The two married and headed west, settling in Saskatchewan, where their 3 children were born. The family moved to St. Albert in 1973 and put down roots in Grandin, where they stayed for 38 incredible years, filled with flying, skiing, hockey, curling, golfing, grandkids, and many, many wonderful friends. His quick wit, his generosity, and his pearls of wisdom will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will take place 2 pm, Thursday November 17, at the Glendale Golf and Country Club, 12410-199 Street NW Edmonton.
The family would like to thank all the amazing staff at the Youville Home, who always treated Wendell and Lorraine with kindness and dignity during a very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Wendell Sr.’s Weekend Warriors, a team that raises money for the Gordie and Colleen Howe Fund for Alzheimer’s.
