It is with heavy hearts that the family of Waldemar Bernard Maciejewski announces his passing on October 29, 2014. After a short but valiant battle, he passed away surrounded by his loved ones.
Waldemar was born in Bydgoszcz, Poland. He graduated from the prestigious Gdansk University of Technology, receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and was his class valedictorian. After a brief career in the Polish aerospace industry, he moved to Austria and began planning for a new life in Canada. Waldemar and his wife, Jadwiga, moved to Canada in 1976, settling in Edmonton, where Waldemar was promptly hired by Syncrude Research, where he worked up to and past his retirement.
Over the years, with drive and determination, he made multiple significant contributions to the development of oil sand technology in Alberta, gaining numerous patents and being awarded the prestigious ASTech Oil Sands Research Prize. He was a man of many talents. He was fluent in 4 languages. He was an excellent pianist, having been trained in Poland. Playing the piano brought him great joy, both when he was alone and when surrounded by friends. He profoundly loved classical music, and had both an incredible knowledge of works, as well as an impressive recording library. He was a talented photographer, and had a particular passion for travel, be it in his RV around North America, to flying to many parts of the world. Above all, he was a man who loved being surrounded by family and loved ones.
He remained a strong, confident, proud, dignified, and resilient man to his final moments. Waldemar passed away on October 29, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife, Jadwiga, and his sons Conrad and Vincent..
A Prayer Service will be held at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home at 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton on Thursday November 6, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady Queen of Poland Church at 9906 – 83 Avenue, Edmonton on Friday November 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
