At sunset on Sunday, our beloved father passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years, surrounded by family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Katica–semicolon– his children, Mary (Joe) Leuwer, Tony, John (Shauna), and Tom–semicolon– his grandchildren, Miko, Ashley, Juli, Emily, Matthew, and Daniel–semicolon– his brothers, Stipe (Ankica), Nikola (Marica), Milan (Marija) in Canada, Marko (Marija), Luka (Ruza) and sister Anica (Stipe) in Croatia, and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ante and Ana–semicolon– brothers Tomo (Julka) and Joso–semicolon– and his sister Marica, all in Croatia.
Dida, as he was affectionately known to his grandchildren, left his beloved Croatia to build a new life in Canada in 1957. His strong work ethic and devotion to family and faith made him a respected pillar of the Croatian community in Edmonton. He will be so greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors on Unit 5E Robbins Pavilion RAH for their professionalism and compassion during our father’s final days.
Prayers will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 14 at Connelly-McKinley, 10011-114 St. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, August 15 at Nativity of Mary Croatian Catholic Church, 10560-98 St. Edmonton, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 14611–Mark Messier Trail, and lunch at the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation or Catholic Services/Sign of Hope campaign.
