It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tung Ping Pon at the Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary Alberta, on January 17, 2018 at the age of 88 years old.
Born in Guangzhou, China, she is survived by her loving husband Ernest of 70 years. She leaves behind 4 children, daughters Lucy (Angelo Zia), Wendy (Vance Hatt), sons Gorman and Burton (Leila). She is deeply loved by her 6 grandchildren, Kelly Zia (Karen), Christina Loh (Eldon), Nicole Lawson (Chris Morris), Scott Lawson, Megan and Amy Pon. She is blessed with 5 great grandchildren Elliot, Madeleine, Henry, Jayden and Sophie. She will be deeply mourned by her beloved brother, Thum Ngrun Mah and his family.
Tung Ping immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta in 1958 to join her husband. While raising their family, they operated several restaurants until their retirement in 1986. She was a talented and dedicated seamstress, working at Reynolds for many years. Her talent was seen in the clothes she sewed and knitted for her children. In her retirement years, she enjoyed gardening, watching Chinese movies and listening to her beloved Chinese opera music. She demonstrated her love to others through food that she generously shared. In 2005, she travelled to Beijing, visited her childhood home in Guangzhou and then to Australia, to see her cousin, Auntie Jean. A lifelong dream was fulfilled when she proudly stood on the Great Wall of China.
