Terry Beauchamp-O’Hanlon (nee Thérèse Marie Beauchemin) 95, of Edmonton, Alberta, died peacefully on February 13, 2015 at the Edmonton General. Born November 3, 1919, in Calgary Alberta, she is predeceased by her first husband Louis Beauchamp and second husband Arthur O’Hanlon.
Terry was fortunate to live in Paris with her family from 1925-1927, where her father was studying medicine at the Sorbonne. She worked in a munitions factory during the war and then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Alberta and later worked as a dietician in a hospital. She and Louis lived in Montreal for two years, before moving back to Edmonton to raise their six children (infant Mark died in 1952). They also spent many wonderful summers at their cabin on Lake Edith in Jasper.
In later years she was a well-known and a loved employee of “Junes House of Fashion” in Edmonton and a volunteer with “Meals on Wheels”. She was a long term member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity and loved to organize and host the reunions at her home. She traveled the world with friends and later with her second husband Art O’Hanlon. Terry was a feisty, independent and deeply caring woman, who gave back to her community through many “simple acts of kindness”.
Terry will be missed by her two sons, Rick (Elizabeth) and Louis of Edmonton–semicolon– daughters, Michele of Toronto, Margot of Vancouver, Paula (Blair) of Jasper and Andrée of Kingston. She leaves behind six grandchildren, John (Kristina), Paul (Gabrielle), Theo, Jessie, Graham and Misia–semicolon– three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Nathaniel and Sophie. Terry has one surviving sister, Louise (John) Picard who lives in Rhode Island, USA.
The family would like to thank the caring staff on 12Y at the General Continuing Care Centre and her wonderful companions Alex, Jocelyn and Agnes who guided her through this journey with grace.
A service, followed by a tea will be held at St. Joachim Church, 9924-110 Street NW, Edmonton on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 1:00 pm.
