The family of Stuart Edwin Hunt of St. Albert, AB is saddened to announce his passing on January 14, 2019 at the age of 82.
Stuart will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Aldis–semicolon– daughter, Jennifer–semicolon– son, Sean (Liane) of Toronto–semicolon– grandchildren, Jessica (Cody) Gonek, and Katherine and Elizabeth Hunt of Toronto–semicolon– sister, Tara (Ivan) Fraser of Mill Bay BC–semicolon– and brother-in-law, Arni (Susan Glass) Thorsteinson of Winnipeg. Stuart was a loving husband, dedicated father and a proud grandfather.
Stuart was born in England and immigrated to Canada at the age of 19. He spent 5 years in the Canadian Air Force at radar stations on the Mid Line. This set a path for his future career as a radiation protection specialist as he moved from Atomic Energy of Canada, Chalk River to the Radiation Protection Branch of the federal government in Ottawa, then to the University of Alberta as the Radiation Protection Officer. In 1982 he founded Stuart Hunt & Associates which has become a national leader in radiation services.
Stuart was an avid outdoorsman. His love of wilderness canoeing was highlighted by his trips on the Nahanni and Coppermine Rivers. He was a dedicated rugby player, referee and fan, and a lifetime member of the St. Albert Rugby Football Club as one of “The Nervous Nine”.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Albert Home Care, Aspen Villa, and the Sturgeon Community Hospital for the care and support given to Stuart over the past year.
