In gratitude for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Célina Touchette (Sr. Claire-Agnès) passed away at the age of 95 years at Providence Centre Infirmary, Edmonton, on December 17, 2012.
Sister Célina was born in Ste. Véronique de Turgeon, Quebec in 1917 and entered the Sisters of Providence in 1938, going on to serve the people of western Canada in child care and education, appreciated for her empathy and kindness to children. Sister Célina taught and cared for children in Midnapore, Desmarais, Fort Vermilion, Sturgeon Lake, Assumption, Joussard and Friedenstal AB, and in Whitehorse, YT. In later years she served her community as a bookkeeper.
Sister Célina’s loss is mourned by the Sisters of Providence and her nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Elzéar and Brigide Touchette and her siblings.
The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Célina by the nursing staff at Providence Centre Infirmary. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.
Prayers will be held at Providence Centre on Wednesday, December 19 at 6:30 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Providence Centre Chapel, 3005 – 119 Street, Edmonton at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, December 20. Rev. Gracjan Burkiciak will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Providence Sisters’ Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta.
