Grateful for her life of loving service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Maria Alice Dancause, SP passed away quietly at the age of 93 years at Providence Centre Infirmary in Edmonton on January 27, 2016.
Sister Alice was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan on November 26, 1922, and entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of Providence on August 27, 1944. Sister Alice served many years of active nursing in our hospitals in Western Canada, and as Director of Nursing at Father Lacombe Care Centre in Calgary. In 1979 Sister Alice began her second career – Pastoral Care, serving at Edmonton General Hospital, Slave Lake Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver and Saint Mary’s Hospital in New Westminster. Sister Alice has been residing at Providence Centre since 2002.
Sister Alice’s loss is mourned by the Sisters of Providence, her sister-in-law Germaine Dancause, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Méderic and Régina–semicolon– and siblings: Laurette (who was also a Sister of Providence), Jeanne, Arthur, Médéric, Maurice, Béatrice, Vitaline, Elphege, Paul, Joseph, Adélard, Yvette, and Marcel.
The Sisters of Providence are most grateful for the loving care given to Sister Alice by the nursing staff at Providence Centre Infirmary. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ministries of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.
The Prayer Vigil will be held at Providence Centre on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 6:30 pm. Reverend Gracjan Burkiciak will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at Providence Centre Chapel, 3005-119th St., Edmonton on Friday, February 5th at 9:00 am. Burial will follow in the Providence Cemetery, in Calgary, Alberta.
