Sister Victoria Mazur (Sister Mary Raymond) of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Cross, Edmonton, AB died on February 15th, 2015 at 3:55 a.m. in Sturgeon Hospital in St. Albert. She was 100 years old.
She was born on August 28, 1914 in Bienfait, SK to John and Dora Mazur. She had six brothers and four sisters. Sister Victoria is survived by the members of her Religious Order and her sister, Lillian (Thomas) Sherba as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Predeceased by her parents, John and Dora Mazur–semicolon– brothers, Walther, Michael, Thomas, Joseph, Andrew and Leo–semicolon– sisters, Mary, Anne and Eugenia (Jenny)–semicolon– brother-in-law, Paul (Mary) Bourguin–semicolon– and many other relatives.
Sister Victoria joined the Sisters of Our Lady of the Cross on January 6th, 1933 and made her 1st vows in 1935 and final vows in 1940. Sister was a teacher by profession, and had her BA degree. She taught in Forget, St. Hubert’s Mission, Wauchope, Montmartre, SK and in Breynet and Valleyview, AB. The last 9 years of her career were spent teaching in the Seattle area in USA. After returning to Edmonton, she taught English to foreign students at St. Mary’s Junior High. Sister Victoria spent one year at our Mother House in France. Sister retired at St. Andrew’s Centre in 1985 and enjoyed many years there.
A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Parish, 12810 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24 at St. Andrew’s Parish.
