Sr. Rosalie Gaukler, Daughter of Wisdom, passed away peacefully at Providence Centre Infirmary, November 19, 2020. She leaves to mourn her loss, her community, the Daughters of Wisdom, and three nieces, Joanne Stafford of Red Deer, Alberta, and Lois Moen and Renae Gabel, both in the U.S.
Sr. Rosalie Gaukler was born in Roberts County, South Dakota, USA, on June 13, 1910, to Joseph and Barbara (Funk) Gaukler. She moved to Red Deer, along with her family, in 1930. Here she was introduced to the Daughters of Wisdom. She entered the Congregation and made religious profession on February 2, 1940 in Ottawa, ON.
Sr. Rosalie then continued her teaching career in Red Deer, and she also taught in Castor and Ponoka. She retired from teaching in 1974, but was a precious aide wherever she was posted. She served in the Congregation’s missions in Castor, Ponoka, Gift Lake, Edmonton, and Red Deer.
Sr. Rosalie was predeceased by all her siblings: her sisters, Josephine, Julia (Arnold) Reinke, Rose (Fred) Shaner, Mary, Anne (Jack) Bartlett, and her brothers, Leonard, Joseph (Vera Fox), Stephen and Otto (who died in infancy).
The Prayer Vigil and Funeral Mass will both be held at Providence Centre Chapel at a later date as will inurnment in Red Deer, Alberta.
Her community would like to thank the nursing staff for the care they gave Sr. Rosalie as well as the Sisters of Providence for their hospitality throughout these past 16 years.
