Grateful for her life of service, the Sisters of Providence announce that Sister Eliane Lanteigne passed away at the age of 86 at Providence Centre, Edmonton, on September 21, 2018. Sister Eliane was born in Caraquet, New Brunswick, in 1932 and entered the Sisters of Providence in 1959 in Montreal, going on to serve the people of western Canada, Argentina, Chile, Montreal and Cameroon as an excellent nurse. Sister Eliane delivered babies and cared for the sick and elderly with great compassion and good humour. She was known and loved for her gentleness. Sister Eliane’s loss is mourned by the Sisters of Providence, her brother Victor and his wife Beatrice, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Victor and Angèle Lanteigne and eight siblings. The Sisters of Providence appreciate the loving care given to Sister Eliane by the nursing staff at Providence Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations to the works of the Sisters of Providence are welcome.
Prayers will be held at Providence Centre on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Reverend Len Gartner will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2018 at Providence Centre Chapel, 3005 – 119 Street NW, Edmonton. Burial will follow in the Sisters of Providence Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta.
