The family of Sidney announce his passing on Thursday, October 4, 2012
He was born on April 21, 1921 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Sidney came to Canada in 1925 and was raised in Toronto, Ontario. Upon matriculating in 1942 he joined the Royal Regina Rifles and landed at Juno Beach on D-Day. He was wounded two days later and spent the rest of the war driving ambulance in the London area. Sidney was a talented welder and became a certified welding engineer. He returned to Toronto married June MacDonald and they had three children, Richard, Jean and Neal. Sidney married Carolyn Oliver in 1964 and had one child, Kimberly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn–semicolon– four children, Richard (Lavonne Roloff), Jean (Russ) Ashmore, Neal Pougnet and Kimberly Lafond–semicolon– grandchildren Jennifer and Anthony (Erin) Pougnet, Lindsay, Jessica (Sam) Ferrer, Matthew Ashmore and Taylor Lafond–semicolon– great grandchildren Lara and Zachary Ferrer–semicolon– sisters, Irene, Nora and Elizabeth and numerous family and friends.
Sidney was predeceased by his first wife, June–semicolon– brothers, John, Charlie and Douglas.
Reverend Martin Pasala will celebrate a Memorial Service on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 10:30 am at Annunciation Catholic Church, 9420 – 163 Street, Edmonton.
