It is with deep sadness we announce that on September 6, 2023, in Edmonton, at the age of 78, Ryszard Lachacz, beloved husband, tata, father and father-in-law, dziadzio, grandfather, brother, uncle, and wonderful friend passed away with family at his side.
Ryszard will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Lucyna; children, Tomasz (Joanna) and Katarzyna; grandchildren, Adam [Olivia Pocsik-Tweed] and Damian; sisters, Teresa (Tadeusz) Kondracki and Danuta Borowik (Ryszard Lebiedzinski); brother, Romuald (Wieslawa); aunt, Stanislawa (Kazimierz) Korzeniewska; sister-in-law, Stanislawa (Kazimierz) Serafin, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives on both sides of the family tree, and friends in Europe and North America.
Ryszard was predeceased by his younger brother Piotr, and his parents Irena and Stanislaw.
Ryszard loved life and lived it to the fullest, he was a brilliant master engineer (AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow), draftsman and designer, he loved his career which gave him the opportunity and thrill to work all around the world. Ryszard was an avid gardener and traveller, an active numismatist, community league member and all-around sports enthusiast. In his younger years he loved down-hill skiing, playing tennis and ping-pong, mechanical and construction projects around the house that also continued on into his retirement years. His wise advice and ability to fix almost anything was his trademark, and he will be remembered as someone who was always there and willing to help when family and friends called.
Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 :00 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Holy Rosary Parish with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 14611 Mark Messier Trail, Edmonton. Click here to view the live stream: https://hrp.ca/en/nasza-parafia
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Ryszard’s name to the Holy Rosary Parish, 11485 – 106 St. Edmonton, AB. T5G 2P8, Canada; or, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
The family also wishes to send a special Thank You to the staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital as well as the staff at the General Hospital, specifically Unit 11Y, and the staff at the CHOICE program at Norwood in Edmonton, for their care and compassion.

I worked with Ryszard for many years at Dreco and was a friend of his. I found him to be a very nice man with many funny jokes and stories to tell. He was a great worker in the engineering and drafting department and very intelligent. I retired from Dreco in 2013 but haven’t seen Ryszard very often since and was saddened to here of his passing. I did meet Lucyna and Tomasz occasionally and found them to be very nice people. I know that Ryszard and Lucyna loved each other and their family very much. Ryszard will be missed by all who knew him. So sorry.
