On June 27, 2011, Rudy Bernath of St. Albert, Alberta, suddenly passed away from heart failure at the age of 71, after a brave battle with leukemia.
Rudy was born in Czechoslovakia in 1939. He married Eva, the love of his life in 1965 and they, with his only brother Les, immigrated to Canada in October of 1968 in search of a better life and opportunity for their families. Rudy and Eva were wonderful parents to their three children, Sue, Michelle (Tom), and Jesse (April). He was the most amazing grandfather to Samantha, Nicole, Kyle and Connor and sadly will not have the opportunity to meet his newest grandchild that is due to arrive next month.
Rudy was a kind and gentle man who touched the lives of everyone that knew him. He was a man of honor and dignity and truly took pleasure in the most simple things. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his family. His spirit will live on in all of those who were blessed to know him.
A Celebration of Rudy’s Life will be held at the St. Albert Catholic Parish at 7 St. Vital Avenue on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 1 pm. A reception will follow at 2 pm at the Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home, located just down the hill from the church.
In lieu of flowers, Rudy would be honored if memorial donations were made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
