It is with profound sadness that the family of Rosalind Ann Sydie announce the sudden passing of their beloved mother and grandmother at the Royal Alexandra Hospital June 10, 2019 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Born in Birmingham, United Kingdom, ‘Ros’ immigrated to Canada in the 1960’s to launch her career as a professor of Sociology. Predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Campbell Sydie, she lives behind two daughters, Annabelle Sydie-Smith (Kelly Smith) and Alexandra Sydie (Mark Davies) along with her adored grandchildren and her extended family of lifelong friends, neighbors and colleagues. Ros lived a life full of travel, dog walking and entertaining. In her retirement Ros was a pillar in the west end of Edmonton, remaining active as Professor Emeritus, Department of Sociology, volunteering for (and against) various development projects in Old Glenora and was a faithful figure at her grandchildren’s various sporting and school events.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you please consider a donation in honour of Ros to the University of Alberta United Way campaign.
A Celebration of Life and a University Memorial are being planned for a later date.
