Ronald McGillivray passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the age of 88 years.
Ron was born in Edmonton to Alexander and Kathryn McGillivray and was the eldest of four children. He enlisted in the RCAF, and graduated from the University of Alberta. Ron retired in 1987 as owner of Texas Agencies General Insurance and during his retirement years, loved to play golf, travel and volunteer all while spending time with a growing family. He was a long serving member of Council 1184 of the Knights of Columbus and also served on the Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital. He was a supporting member of the St. Pius X and St. Thomas More parishes, as well as an avid supporter of the Edmonton Eskimos
Ron is survived by Frances, his loving wife of 64 years, daughter Judy and sons Bruce (Valerie), Bob (Gail), Mark (Susan) and Jerry(Valerie)–semicolon– 10 grandchildren Kyla (Tim), Karen (Jason), Michael, Mark, Carolyn (Mark), Kevin, Barbara, Debra, Mary and MacKay–semicolon– 4 great grandchildren Alida, Kellan, Easton, and Levi. Ron will be deeply missed by his three sisters–semicolon– Myra (Andre Morin), Rita Mae (Don O’Brien), and Donna (predeceased by Harold Paskall) as well as many other family members and close friends. Grandpa be loving remembered for his “big hugs and smiles”, “detailed stories” and of course his innate ability to engage with others in any setting to provide advice, share a laugh or just simply listen.
A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 114 St. Edmonton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 210 Haddow Close, Edmonton. Interment will follow immediately at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all the health care workers, particularly Derek Tougas, who took such great care of Ron during his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Edmonton Catholic Social Services, Sign of Hope.
