After a courageous battle with cancer, Rob passed away on January 10, 2016. People lined up outside his hospital room to say goodbye to the man who had touched their lives in a myriad of ways.
Born in Edmonton, he grew up as the son of hoteliers. He was a natural athlete, excelling in every sport he played. But it was his passion for volleyball that catapulted his Alberta team into the national sports arena. After high school he worked in family-owned hotels and went on to become a popular bartender at the Sawmill Restaurant. His vivacious personality, wonderful sense of humour and ability to relate to people from all walks of life is what made him a natural for the job. The great joy that Rob took in riding his bike, partaking in family ski holidays or swimming on long summer days at the cabin was how he taught his sons: Sam and Ben and his daughter, Andrea to seize the day – every day – and to get out there and enjoy life to the fullest. He did.
Rob was pre-deceased by his father, John Kuchera and his sister, Lynn Yarmak. He will be greatly missed by all his friends as well as his wife, Maureen–semicolon– daughter, Andrea–semicolon– sons: Sam and Ben–semicolon– brother, Tedd and wife Sheonaid–semicolon– brother, Doug and wife Shami–semicolon– mother, Mary–semicolon– brother-in-law, Peter Yarmak–semicolon– parents-in-law: Marcel and Anne Marie Venne–semicolon– brothers-in-law: Scott and wife, Angie Venne, and Bruce Venne–semicolon– sister-in-law, Amy and husband, Campbell Mackenzie–semicolon– nieces: Gillian, Savannah, Sarah and Emily–semicolon– and nephews: Christopher, Zachary, Jack and Lachlan.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 15, 2016 at St. Albert Catholic Parish, 7 St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert, Alberta.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Allan Macdonald, Dr. Maria Ho and the nursing staff of units 15, 17 and 18 at Sturgeon Community Hospital.
Memorial Donations may be made in Robert’s name to Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation – Neurological Department, 1502, 8215-112 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta T6G 9Z9.
