Raymond Trewin

On Thursday, January 17, Raymond Fletcher Trewin (Ray) passed away in Hospice Care at the General Hospital, Edmonton at the age of 91 after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Brandon, Manitoba on June 29, 1921 to Myrtle May (Morey) and Herbert George Trewin. He had many fond memories of growing up in Shoal Lake, Manitoba.

Having learned the violin at the age of seven, Ray went on to play several additional instruments over the course of years, including trumpet, piano, French horn, clarinet and double bass. He served as a musician in the Military Band of the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps during WWII, and was a lifetime member of the Musician’s Union. In May of 1946, Ray married his sweetheart, Dorothy May Simpson, and they settled down to start a family in Burnaby, B.C. Professionally, Ray worked most of his life for Finning Canada as a businessman, which took him and Dorothy from Burnaby to Edmonton in 1981. Ray is predeceased by Dorothy (1986). In 1989 Ray married Elizabeth (Betty) Harbison Eastwood and was widowed again in 2009.

Ray will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by Cheryl-Lynne (Cheri) Trewin of Vancouver and Shelley-Mae Reeves (Robert) of Burnaby–semicolon– grandson, Scott Trewin of Madeira Park, B.C–semicolon– step-children Hazel Bauman (David Rawls) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Paul Eastwood (Anke) of Edmonton, John Eastwood of Calgary–semicolon– grandchildren Matthew Bauman (Cassie), Susan Bauman of California, Sarah and Rebecca of Edmonton, Rachel and Claire Eastwood of Calgary–semicolon– great-grandchildren, Jenna, Brandon, and William Trewin of Madeira Park and Noelle Bauman of California–semicolon– and good friend, Robin Slater of Canmore.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton, with Dirk Jessen officiating. Ray’s ashes will be interred* at the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby B.C. He was a Master Mason of Zenith Lodge of A.F& A.M, and Scottish Rite.
