It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of our wife, daughter, mother, sister, friend, and neighbour Robin Dawn Phillips. Known for her signature style and memorable laugh and smile, Robin brought joy to all she did. A stellar hostess, there was always room at her delicious, ever expanding table. She was forever
curious and had an amazing way of turning strangers into friends, and sometimes even family, until the day she died. She chose to receive medical assistance in dying on Saint Jean-Baptiste Day under the Strawberry Moon in her backyard surrounded by family.
Robin was a committed community member. She contributed to the Junior League of Edmonton for decades and volunteered as a typing instructor, Sunday school teacher, Pedal Pushers and Girl Guide leader, ESL coach for newcomer women, and political campaigner. She loved her family and friends and
could be relied on for her patient, caring, listening ear and loving perspective. We will all remember Robin’s profound artistic expression and the many ways she inspired creativity in others. Painting with oil, acrylic, and watercolour, Robin’s unique voice and love for life and beauty continue to shine through her
Robin enjoyed reading, tai chi, dancing, golfing, and watching many sports. She loved painting, walking, and going to the movies with her son Steve, finding inspiration in art galleries with her daughter Jules, and going for adventures with Les, the love of her life, and their family and friends. From Paris to New York, Nunavut to Palm Springs, Barcelona to Vegas, Quebec City to Zihuatanejo, Niagara Falls to New Orleans, or road tripping with her Mom Shirley to the west coast, Robin loved to travel and see the world. Lola and Lalo had an extra fondness for the Spanish language and Mexican culture, visiting many regions in the country together since their honeymoon. They hosted hundreds of families in their home over the years. Her relationships, generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness, and the impact she has had on others are her legacy. She is predeceased by her father Rick and best friend Debbie Soby. She leaves behind her
husband Les, mother Shirley, children Julie and Stephen (Katie), siblings Debbie, Erik (Linda), Shelley (Kim), and Gregg, countless family members, and dear friends whom she loved very much. Our family is grateful to Lynda, Theresa, and the staff in U of A Hospital 4G3 and Grey Nuns Hospital Unit 43 for making her
final days peaceful and comfortable. Robin loved children and always made time for them, teaching them crafts and surprising them with gifts. In lieu of flowers or donations, please give some art supplies to a child in need and then take the time to talk to them and share a story about Robin.
