Patrick Glen MacCuish passed away peacefully October 9th at the age of 79. Glen was born November 30, 1935 in Neilburg, Saskatchewan. Youngest son of the late Daniel and Rena MacCuish, Glen is predeceased by his brothers Neil, Don, Earl, Leon and Merlin and his sister Flora. He leaves to mourn his best friend, Marilyn Rycroft, his children Maureen, Kevin, Robert and Joanne and grandchildren Jacob, Ella, Camille, Colleen, Duncan, Caitlin, Cameron and Mila, the mother of his children Anita Roy, Marilyn’s children and grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Glen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Saskatchewan, Class of 1957. For much of his career, he was a small business owner, first with Rexall Drugs in Naicam, Saskatchewan then with Penny’s Drug Mart in Camrose, Alberta. For many years, he lived in Grand Prairie and worked as a relief pharmacist in the area. He retired to Edmonton but continued to work well into his 70’s. Glen was a charmer. Charismatic, funny and smart, he had a genuine interest in everyone he met. His life work as a pharmacist provided the ideal platform for Glen to engage with people, to come to know them and help when he could. He also loved a good joke and a few laughs, a rousing hand of cards, a quick game of pool and a fast shuffle on the dance floor. He loved to entertain, to regale you with a good story, a great joke, a fond memory. All his life, he delighted children with his capacity to add up many numbers in his head. It was one of his favourite party tricks and a strong motivator for his grandchildren to work harder in math. Glen made many friends and touched many lives. He will be missed.
The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 114 Street, Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Glen’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200-325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5.
