It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Owen De Bathe.
Owen spent his formative years on the family farm near the village of Grand Valley in Ontario. Owen had fond, lifelong memories of his time in this beautiful countryside. This rural upbringing shaped his character into the hardworking and honest man that he was.
For the last 35 years of his career, Owen was a Canadian Tire Dealer. This business took him out west and he settled in Edmonton in 1975.
Owen was dearly loved and will be remembered by family and friends as a genial, perceptive, thoughtful, mannerly gentleman with a ready wit and warm demeanour.
Owen loved the performing arts, classical music and jazz, the mountains, hiking, and travelling.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, daughters: Karen (Kent) Carole (John); stepchildren: Kathren, Gary (Lisa), Paul (Katja); eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Owen was pre-deceased by his beloved mother, Reta and his sister, Annette.
Owen’s family will gather to celebrate his life.
In memory of Owen, donations would be welcomed by the Art Gallery of Alberta (2 Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton, AB T5J 2C1), or the University Hospital Foundation (Donor Office Rm 1H1.91 WMC, 8440 – 112 St. NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 2B7)
