Following a long illness with dementia we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, pepère, and grand-pepère who passed away very peacefully Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the age of 96 years.
Otto is survived by Aline his faithful wife and life long companion of 72 years. He was proud of his family of 7 children: Jacques (Leona), Carol (Jérémie), Suzanne (Gerald), Anna (Leonard), Madeleine (Ben), Richard (Valerie), and Pierre (Karen)–semicolon– 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Alex, sister Anna, and 4 sisters-in-law May, Rita, Thérèse, and Madeleine.
Otto is often described as a gentle, patient, and soft spoken man. His kindness extended from frequently lending a hand to his family and to many community/church related endeavours. Otto also balanced his life with a spiritual side and recreation that included golf, hunting, gardening, shop projects, singing, reading, card playing, and puzzles.
Otto had a long career in Alberta and N.W.T. where he tackled many roles with equal energy and competence including: school janitor, carpenter helper, timekeeper, cook, bookkeeper, shipper, building materials salesperson, farmer, village secretary treasurer, red seal carpenter, and construction supervisor. As an example of blending integrity and responsibility to employer and family, Otto worked extra long hours and multiple jobs. However, for those who were blessed to be close to him, we knew he was most happy when raising pigs and completing small to very large carpentry projects.
Otto was predeceased by parents Ferdinand and Regina, 4 brothers, and 9 sisters.
The family extends much appreciation for the 6 years of highly professional and compassionate care Otto received at Holyrood Extended Care Center Edmonton his final home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St Thomas d’Aquin Church 8410 – 89 Street, Edmonton on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations in Otto’s memory be forwarded to Alzheimer Society of Alberta or to a charity of your choice.
A private interment will be held in Plamondon, AB at a later date.
