Nelson Spielmann, beloved husband, father grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away on December 31, 2020 after losing a brief but fierce fight to Covid 19.
In addition to his wife, Francisca, he is survived by his three boys: Alex, Karl, and Christian and their families, including eleven grandchildren.
Nelson is predeceased by his parents, Reynaldo and Ernesta; sister, Kitty, and his beloved brother, Reynaldo Jr (Tito).
Nelson was born February 24, 1940, in the town of Carahue in southern Chile to Reynaldo and Ernesta Spielmann. He was the second of seven siblings, and fierce protector to all of them. He grew up playing in the streets and roaming the countryside and swimming the rivers of his birthplace during the summers. As he got older, he dreamed of studying international law, until a traffic accident took his father and he went to work to support his mother and siblings, which he did until the day he was married to the love of his life and started a family of his own. He had a passion for sales and fishing and carved out a successful career in Chile until he came to Canada with his young wife and three small children. He came to love his adopted homeland and worked as a steel worker until his retirement.
He will always be remembered for his unique and boisterous laugh, his tireless fighting spirit, and his complete loyalty and dedication to his family and close friends.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff at Miller Crossing Long Term Care home who, with tireless compassion and dedication, cared for him during his final days.
