It is with profound sorrow that the family of Mijo Belavic announces his passing on August 17, 2021, at the age of 92 years.
He will be greatly missed by his loving daughters, Zlata and Liliana (Joe); grandchildren, Katrina, Joseph, Bianca and Malinda Ivanković; as well as his sister Kata; and nieces in Argentina along with nephews and other family members in Croatia.
Predeceased in 2006 by his wife, Barbara of 49 years as well as sisters Dora and Dragica.
A Prayer Vigil will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. at Connelly McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street NW, Edmonton.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Nativity of Mary Croatian Catholic Church, 10560 – 98 Street NW, Edmonton on Monday August 23, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Hi Eileen, thanks very much for your kind words of caring at this difficult time for our family as we are still coming to terms with my father’s passing as it wasn’t the outcome we expected when I took him to the hospital even though he was 92 years of age. Mijo (and his previously departed wife Barbara) were great friends of the Salopek family in Edmonton, AB.
We fondly remember the outstanding banquets at his home, and the picnics where a small pig was roasted over open charcoal.
Mijo had special skills including
growing apples, making home-made wine and liquor, hunting and butchering.
Our mother Marica would often phone him to hear that latest news within the local Croatian community: Mijo was always up to date.
