Michael Webb

0d1a35fe738430fa0d1cb0b1fa1de68e lg

Michael Shane Harvey Webb was born on March 1, 1971, in Vancouver, B.C. to Arlene Lemley. His early childhood was spent in Vancouver until the age of 7, when they moved to the St. Paul, Alberta area. Arlene married Bill Webb in 1979, and together with their children, Mike and Amanda, they formed a family and began to farm in Ashmont, Alberta. Mike really enjoyed the farm life, which included everything from goats, sheep, dogs, to various other animals over the years. Together with his sister Mandy, they had a well rounded childhood, which included violin lessons, dirt biking, gopher hunting, playing cricket, skidooing, and making bale forts in the barn. When Mike was in Junior High, the family relocated to a beautiful farm overlooking the valley in Wainwright, Alberta. Here, he continued his outdoor lifestyle. He enjoyed meeting new friends, learning to drive, and getting his first car…. a sporty Fiat, perfect for farm life! Mike graduated from WHS in 1989, and from there he attended Red Deer College to pursue a career in Pharmacy. Mike enjoyed many good times at college, but determined quickly that he was better suited to follow a career outdoors. In 1992, Mike entered the Environmental Sciences Program at Lakeland College in Vermilion, majoring in Parks and Recreation. In 1992, Mike entered the Environmental Sciences Program at Lakeland College in Vermilion, majoring in Parks and Recreation. There, he not only met numerous lifelong friends, but also found the love of his life, Gaylene. Mike then transferred to the University of Idaho into the Bachelor of Science Resource Recreation and Tourism Degree program. On February 19, 1995, Mike and Gaylene married at a beautiful and intimate ceremony at Hubbles Lake, Alberta. They began their married life on an acreage outside of Stony Plain, where they converted a garage package into a cozy home. The first additions to their acreage were their cats, Jasper and Smokey. Mike then added a German Shepherd named Teva, whom he later trained and had certified as an RCMP Civilian Search and Rescue dog. From 1996 to 2000, Mike worked as a Park Ranger/Conservation Officer in various locations across the province. In 2001, Mike began his career with the City of Edmonton as a Park Ranger. With both Mike and Gaylene now working in the city, they later purchased their family home in Lewis Estates, where they currently reside. Their first bundle of joy, Emily-Anne, was born in 2002, with a beautiful head of curls like her mom and an attitude like her dad. Their family grew in 2005, when Keira arrived full of freckles and spunk. Kylie completed their family unit in 2007, stealing Mike’s brown locks, and leaving him with only a mustache. Mike found himself now completely surrounded by girls, and was so in love. In 2009, Mike transferred from his Park Ranger position to become the Civic Events River Valley Liaison. Two years later, he was promoted to Parks Leader with River Valley Parks. Mike’s knowledge and passion for the Parks of Edmonton drew his many colleagues together as a unified group. He was well regarded and respected by everyone who worked with him. Mike loved nothing more than time spent cuddling with all four of his girls, going on long family walks, or endlessly teasing and wrestling with them. Many hours were spent cheering his girls on from the sidelines of their sporting activities, or watching movies with them. Together, they shared a deep love for water, including boating and camping. He also enjoyed fishing with his buddies, quadding, sledding, and anything outdoors. Hockey was a big part of Mike’s life, and he especially looked forward to his individual Oilers game dates with his friends and ‘his girls’. Mike adored Gaylene, and never missed an opportunity to take his beautiful wife on a date.
