
Mary Nell Biollo Doyle, much-loved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and teacher, passed away peacefully on September 16th at the age of 96, after a life dedicated to family, friends, students, and her Roman Catholic faith.
Born on September 26, 1915, the fourth of ten children by Oliver John (O.J.) and Annie Biollo, Mary grew up in Venice, Alberta, which her father helped found and named for his home province in Italy. She eventually moved to Edmonton, teaching school for decades in Leduc and touching the lives of countless pupils. Upon her retirement, Mary enjoyed choral singing, horseback riding, hiking and cross-country skiing with the Edmonton Trekker’s Club, and traveling, a passion she shared with her grandchildren on trips to the Maritimes, Australia, and the British Isles. She also spent time living in Victoria and Chemainus, B.C.
Mary is survived by her sister Gloria Holubowich (Frank)–semicolon– brother David Biollo–semicolon– brother Val Biollo (Mavis)–semicolon– sisters-in-law Anne, Eleanor, and Rolande Biollo–semicolon– son Charles Keehn (Geri)–semicolon– son Lin Keehn (Linda)–semicolon– Charles’s daughters Carissa (Jeremy), Shannon, and Lara (Glen)–semicolon– Lin and Linda’s son Jeremy and daughter Laurie–semicolon– and six great-grandchildren. We love you and we’ll miss you very much, Blue Grandma.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff at Laurier House Lynnwood for the compassionate care they gave to Mary. In lieu of flowers, those who want to may make a donation in Mary’s name to a cause she often supported, Hope Mission, P.O. Box 953, Edmonton, AB, T5J 2L8. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 27th, at Connelly–McKinley Downtown Chapel, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 28th, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 13 Brower Drive, Sherwood Park. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
