May 17, 1930 – Sept. 17, 2014
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary, at the age of 84 years. Her family is comforted by her love and memories.
Mary is survived by her four daughters, Shelley Blackburn (Bruce Brinkworth), Donna Crowe (Daniel), Pamela Massel Schiavon, and Cyndee Massel McElhinney–semicolon– her eleven grandchildren, Craig, Leigh & Lauren Blackburn, Sean Crowe, Colleen Dizep & Brendan Crowe, Bruno & Alessia Schiavon, and Paul, Mark & Chad McElhinney–semicolon– her 5 great grandchildren, Harper & Dylan Blackburn, Coen & Henry Dizep and Astrid McElhinney Stenroos–semicolon– her sisters, Frances Harrison and Teresa Gaul.
She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Massel, her parents Fortunato & Domenica Mattiello, her infant-brother Pietro and her son-in-law Denis Blackburn.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude for the extraordinary care provided by the doctors and staff of the Edmonton General Palliative Care Unit, the U of A Hospital and the WW Cross Cancer Institute.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to any of the above hospital foundations.
We appreciate the many friends and family who have offered their prayers and shown their love and support during this difficult time.
Prayer service will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 7:00pm at The Assumption Church, 9040 95 Avenue, Edmonton, where A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 10:00AM.
