After a long and courageous battle, Marijan Damir Kolar, 75, succumbed to cancer, surrounded by his family on October 16, 2015.
His beloved wife Dragica, much-loved children Julie, Mich, Elizabeth and Mariana, and five treasured grandchildren survive Marijan. Marijan was a loving father, husband, grandfather and dear friend to many.
Marijan was a lover of life and a pursuer of dreams. He left his homeland of Yugoslavia to explore the world, and that he did. Some of his favourite memories included, winning a bronze medal while representing Canada as an amateur boxer in the 1967 Pan Am Games, as well as living in Hawaii where he constructed a sea-worthy boat. Marijan continued his dream building in Canada, marrying his love Dragica, and raising his four children.
Marijan loved travelling to tropical destinations, where he enjoyed sunning himself on the beach and swimming in the ocean. Marijan also loved what he did for a living, he was a bricklayer, and he loved working with his hands and constructing with perfection.
Although Marijan lived a much fulfilled life, he always considered his family his greatest achievement and pleasure. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and young grandchildren.
Marijan will not only be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather, but also as an honourable, trustworthy, loyal, and big-hearted friend. He was a unique and beautiful soul that will be missed by so many.
