Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 96. She left behind a legacy of love, and kindness which will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Irene was the seventh and youngest surviving child of a homestead family of twelve children. Throughout her childhood, Irene enjoyed the protection of her three sisters and four brothers. She enjoyed school and graduated as a schoolteacher after only three months of Normal School. Later in her life, she achieved her teaching degree from the University of Alberta.
Irene had a practical and steady love of life. She started her career teaching in a one room school near St. Paul, Alberta, and she retired as assistant principal for J.H. Picard Catholic school. During her retirement years, she volunteered as Parish secretary for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and as a member of her condo board association. Irene was a very accomplished administrator. She enjoyed singing in the choir and bowling.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Rene (Jane), Simone, Richard (Laurie), Diane (Bob); eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and her great-great-granddaughter.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 11, 2022, at 7:00 pm with visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 10826 – 62 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, followed by a brief gathering in the Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Hope Mission in Edmonton, 9908 106 Ave, Edmonton, Alberta.
