It is with heavy hearts that the Gravelle family share the news of their beloved Marcel and his sudden and unexpected passing on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Marcel was wholeheartedly committed to his family and they were always his first priority. He was known for his selflessness, unconditional support and assistance. Marcel positively impacted so many people throughout his life.
Marcel grew up in a close-knit, loving home on Madeleine and Maurice’s acreage in St. Albert with his brother and his four sisters, all of whom he loved deeply.
Marcel’s greatest legacy was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband. He was a proud father, grandfather and uncle. Marcel and Donna recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. They were a remarkable team. They were mutually supportive of each other’s careers, endeavors, volunteering and travel. They remained devoted parishioners at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Laurent Catholic Parishes.
Marcel was an avid curler, and in his younger years he was passionate about such things as playing hockey and his education at NAIT.
Marcel had extensive construction knowledge and financial literacy which made him very successful in his career. Marcel worked with Calgary Power, Trans Alta and Edmonton Power as a Telecommunications Technician. Prior to his retirement, he enjoyed his role as a Contract Administrator with ATCO Electric.
He had exceptional problem solving abilities and he had very strong analytical skills. Marcel had an amazing grasp of physics to “work smarter not harder.” He had an unending ability to “MacGyver” and make things work. If Marcel couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed.
Marcel truly enjoyed maintaining the in-law family cabin in Saskatchewan. Marcel’s greatest accomplishment was his own lake-lot family-built home. He was the general contractor for its construction and he actively participated in every role from bottom to top. With pride, Marcel generously shared this special gathering space with others.
Marcel was a people-person. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends. He valued connection.
Marcel was proud of his entire family and to him they brought incredible joy.
Marcel joins his father, Maurice and his younger brother, Danny. Marcel leaves behind his wife, Donna; his daughter, Pamela (Dennis Cooke); his son, Chad (Tracy Gravelle); and his three grandchildren, Luke, Sienna and Blake. He also leaves behind his sisters, Joanne (Leo Houle), Elaine (Jim Rutherford), Denise Allen and Lorraine Telford; as well as, his very close nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Should you wish to make a donation in Marcel’s honour, you are invited to donate to a charity of your choosing that reflects your relationship and connection with Marcel.
Marcel’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 1:00pm. Due to current protocols, in-person attendance will be by invitation.
