On the sunny afternoon of August 24th, surrounded by her children and the warmth of their love, Lydia walked across the rainbow bridge to heaven…pain-free with a new bounce in her step, ready to be greeted with all of the love of family and friends who had already travelled that same path.
The hardest part for Mom to go on to take this next step of her journey, was the thought of leaving her family. Her family will always be her world and greatest love. She was so proud of being our Mom, a grandma and a great-grandma…nothing brought her more joy than her family. Even if you weren’t “family”, she would welcome you with open arms and make you feel as though you’ve always been one of us. Mom brought everyone she loved together and made sure we were fed. There was always lots of laughter, excitement, extra food to take home (probably a bag of the best perogies you’ve ever had, a poppyseed cake, or cookies), and most likely knitted socks and mittens. It’s all part of the legacy she left for us…one of tradition, compassion and creating memories that will continue to make you smile. We love you to the moon and back Mom!
Left to honour and cherish Lydia’s memory are her children, Mary Ann (Mac), Pauline (Howard), Myron (Maureen), George (Cathy), Pat (Doug), Vi (Steve), youngest daughter Jen, and daughter-in-law (Wendy), 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, her youngest sister, 2 sister-in-laws and 1 brother-in-law and all of their families. As much as we miss our Mom already, it makes our hearts happy to know that she will be greeted in heaven by her husband, Peter; oldest son, Paul; grandson, Christopher; Jen’s partner, Dan; parents, Awram and Nadia Wolodko; sister, Vera; her 2 good friends, Pat Matthews and Linda Schlongel, and many other loved ones anxiously waiting to see her again.
Due to COVID, Mom’s Celebration of Life will be a private, family gathering on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. For everyone’s safety during this time of COVID, our family encourages you to join us on livestream with your families.
