Lena Lamoureux (nee Kachur) of Edmonton passed away peacefully on September 13, 2018 at the age of 91 years to join her husband, Phillip. She is deeply missed by her seven children, Anne Marie (Rudy) Ongaro, Gerald (Joanne), Michael (Olga), Stephen (Karen), Darryl (Shannon), Neil (Anita) and Monique (Steven)–semicolon– 18 grandchildren–semicolon– sister, Anne Wachowicz–semicolon– and extended family and friends.
Originally from St. Michael, Lena completed her B.Ed. at the UofA and was a passionate teacher throughout her life – be it in a classroom, at home with her children or expanding the horizons of her friends. With Phillip, she established the Lamoureux Award in Special Education at the UofA.
She was devoted to family, celebrating every accomplishment with pride, and cherished our frequent and not so quiet family dinners. Lena was strong and vibrant, instilling in her children a sense of curiosity, wonder and adventure encouraging us to follow our hearts and explore the world and new opportunities.
She was an artist at heart, with a deep love of nature, who found time to paint, sketch, and sculpt while managing a busy home. She was a compassionate, warm, kind-hearted woman, who listened and provided wise counsel to friends and family.
Friends are invited to prayers at Connelly-McKinley, 10011-114 St. Edmonton on Sunday, September 23 at 3:00 p.m. A Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Parish, 13 Brower Dr., Sherwood Park on Monday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m.
The family thanks the staff at Grandview and Kensington for their tender and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Marian Centre or a charity of your choice.

Lena was a dear lady to me… she was a Home Care client at Shepherd’s Care, Kensington, and I was blessed to have her on my morning roster. So, we enjoyed many hours together over the years, talking about everything under the sun, from politics (very little), to our faith (lots!), and our families (loads!!) as I helped her get ready for each day. We used one another as sounding boards, solving our own and the world’s problems, with much wisdom and even more laughter! Lena was very kind and patient, to me and her other workers, despite health issues.
We both delighted in orchids, taking in the orchid show one year – she was impressed not only with the actual flowers, but also the many paintings, drawings and photos of orchids, appreciating the talent involved.
Her flowers on the deck were a joy to her, and we would use the chives growing there in breakfast omelets which she devoured with gusto!
I have made the acquaintance of many people in my line of work, and the my memories of some are dim, and some burn bright with lovely memories…your Mom is dear to my heart and will be remembered.

What fond memories I have of all the Lamoureux Family, Phil and Lena, and all of their wonderful children. In my first years of teaching at St Rita CS I was closest to Michael, Stephen and Darryl and Neil as they were in Grades 5, 4, 2 and 1 [as best as I can recall] Mom was a marvelous hostess who had me over for Lunch a couple of times, and Phil and I were connected through our passion for Education. There is something so special about a Family that has such amazing children, who have now brought more “Lamoureux Life” into our world with their own children, and Grandchildren. Blessings to all of you….
