100 years, a full life, well lived
Laurie Browning born March 10, 1921, left us peacefully on February 16, 2022 to join his wife Mabel in their new divine home.
Laurie was predeceased by his wife Mabel, the love of his life for 78 years; his infant daughter Laureen (1950), his great grandson Lyon; siblings Jack (Hazel) and Isabel (Dwight). Laurie loved and was proud of his children Howard (Judy), Gary (Carol) and Rob; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; special nieces, Marion and Janice; and numerous relatives.
Laurie worked early with Cooper Wholesale Grocers then served our country in World War II with 6 Bomber Group, RCAF 434 Squadron (Bluenose) piloting both the Halifax and Lancaster aircraft.
Laurie completed 30 hazardous bombing missions, consistently bringing his crew and friends safely back to base Croft. He returned home as commissioned Flight Lieutenant and having qualified in 10 different aircraft including the Douglas DC3 and the Supermarine Spitfire.
Following the War Laurie returned to civilian life working with Taylor Pearson Carson as their office and service manager. The majority of his career was with Goodyear Tire as a driven, eminent salesperson, supervisor and manager. He completed his career with Alberta Health as an industry consultant.
Laurie loved his golf game, as a player, a professional armchair participant, a teacher of many – wife, father-in-law (Bill Guest), sons and many friends. Laurie and Mabel would take their motorhome and travel throughout Alberta playing golf in wonderful courses, known and unknown. He was an accomplished downhill skier starting with back country into Temple Mountain, old Lake Louise, until the last run at the age of 85 at Lake Louise.
Laurie was fond of his cars often surprising us all with a new vehicle – 21 in all. Laurie would drive to the southside of Edmonton and enjoy walking the length of the White Avenue business area.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Capital Care Lynnwood for their exceptional and compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place and a family memorial will be held. At a later time a celebration of life will be held to commemorate his life and success.
As desired donations may be made to the The Ladder Project care of Excel Society.

What a great legacy uncle Laurie has left. I was always so impressed with how active he was and often ran into him on Whyte Ave during one of his walks. I loved our visits.
Uncle Laurie and Auntie Mo held a special place in my heart ever since they visited me in the hospital when I was 12 yrs old (1962). Knowing they lost their daughter that was my age left a mark on us all. My Mom was so close to them and they helped her a lot after Dad passed away. I think our last visit was in Dec 2019.
My love and hugs go out to all of the family, his pleasant loving personality and uplifting attitude will be missed !
