It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, papa and great grandfather, Dr. Kenneth Francis McGovern on May 5, 2019 at the age of 88 years.
Ken is predeceased by his loving wife, Pauline (2002); and infant son, Gregory John. He is survived by his heartbroken children,
Mary (Roy), Frank (Sheila), Jane, Ann (Jim), Timothy (Erin) and Catherine; his beautiful grandchildren, Ryan (Adrienne), Kevin (Marylou) Stephanie (Matt), Kristen (Craig), Aidan, Tate and Jordan; and his precious great grandchildren, Everett, Kenna and Mackenzie.
Ken was born in Australia, where he graduated from medical school, married Pauline, created a family and practiced medicine in Newcastle, NSW. He moved to Edmonton to work as a family physician at the Links Clinic, Royal Alexandra Hospital and then his own practice until 1992. Ken and Pauline returned to Australia where he practiced at Molescan for the prevention of skin cancer. After Pauline–aphostrophe–s passing and surviving a brain tumour, the children moved Ken back to Canada where he spent his remaining 14 years in Calgary. Unfortunately, the cancer returned.
Thanks to the care given by the staff at Age Care Midnapore and a special thank you to Agnes (Nurse Next Door).
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Michael McCaffery at St. Joseph–aphostrophe–s Basilica on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. Interment to take place in Australia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Canadian Cancer Society.
