On March 17, 2016, Kathy, beloved daughter, wife, sister, and aunt passed away surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her loving husband Larry (and her faithful companions, Dante and Rudy).
She will be greatly missed by her brothers Jim (Marylou) and Bill (Joanne)–semicolon– nieces Pam, Heather, and Jessica–semicolon– nephew Tim–semicolon– stepchildren Larry, Cindy, Cam, and Morgan–semicolon– and of course her furry friend Kipper.
Kathy graduated from the University of Alberta School of Nursing in 1973. She had a dedicated career in nursing until her retirement in 2015. She began nursing in cardiovascular intensive care and explored various opportunities and further education within the profession. Most recently, Kathy taught at MacEwan University, which she found to be the most rewarding experience of her career. This exemplified the depth of her commitment to the nursing profession.
She had an amazing support group of friends, including those from her childhood, nursing career, and walking group. She was strong and independent, thoughtful and selfless, creative and compassionate. Kathy had many varied accomplishments including completing a master’s degree, getting her pilots license, and learning a variety of crafty hobbies.
Kathy had a knack for seeing the positive in anything. She could help you see the light on a grey day. She has given this everlasting gift to us.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the University of Alberta Faculty Club, 11435 Saskatchewan Drive on April 23, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
