On July 25, 2020, Kathleen Anne Briner of Edmonton passed away at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Daniel (Erin) Briner, Lori (Derek) Opdendries, David (Patricia) Briner, Doug Briner, Grant Briner; her grandchildren: Colin (Christina) Opdendries, Lee-Anne (Kyle) Scherger, Lindsey (Jamie) Janssen, Ryan (Jennifer) Opdendries, Carolyn Briner, Martin Briner, Diana Opdendries, Kevin (Elise) Briner, Taylor Briner, Lauren Briner, and Sheldon Briner. She was also blessed by eight great-grandchildren who brought her much joy: Madisyn and Kayla Opdendries, Jordan and Kailynn Scherger, Quinn and Lila Janssen and Beau and Oaklynn Opdendries.
Besides her immediate family, Kathleen is survived by her sister, Rosemarie Barnes; her brother, Henry (Bud) Hauck; sister-in-law, Rose Hauck, and numerous family and friends whom she touched deeply. She was predeceased by her brother, John (Jack) Hauck; sister, Anne (Ralph) Welda; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Hauck, and brother-in-law, Neil Barnes.
Kathleen spent her early years in Heisler, a small Alberta town where everyone knew each other. She loved learning and books so it was no surprise when she became a teacher and later a principal. She worked for many years in the Edmonton Catholic school system.
Memorial donations may be made to the International Literacy Association in honour of her love of reading and children.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Chartwell Westcott and the Grey Nuns Hospital for their care and compassion.
