Joseph Silvaggio
Joseph Silvaggio lived his life like many of the songs he loved to sing: loud, expressive and outwardly full of joy. It is with sadness, that Joseph’s voice was suddenly silenced on March 10, 2018 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Joseph was born in Ripabottoni, Italy on March 30, 1945 to the late Frank and Nancy Silvaggio and is survived by his sister Josie Raso (Frank).
He loved to share stories about his four children–semicolon– Francis Silvaggio, Dr. Joseph Silvaggio (Tara), Carla Bradley (Thomas) and Angela Oakley (Randy) as well as his ten grandchildren.
With an unparalleled charm, Joseph made quick friends everywhere he went and he was eager to entertain at any given moment.
Singing was Joseph’s passion and karaoke was his chosen stage. Through this community, Joseph amassed a following of friends of admirers who will dearly miss his almost nightly appearances. It was in this spotlight, in full suit and tie, Joseph slipped into his comfort zone pumping out his favourite songs.
It is in his most favourite song, where his life can be simply summed up:
“I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way,
“Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way”
Frank Sinatra
Joseph did it his way.
A Memorial Service, celebrating Joseph’s life, will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Good Shepherd Catholic Parish, 18407 60 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
Wanda Welsh-Tomko says
I remember Joe from childhood, grade school at Sts Peter & Paul, then grade 8 at our Lady of Lourdes. We became good friends as very young adults, and would accompany each other to social events when a friend was needed, and neither of us were dating others. A treasured friend. Joe married before I did, and I had moved to Toronto where I met my future husband. It saddened me to see Joe in the Obituaries, and so far away. Wanda Welsh-Tomko
