
On Thursday, October 9, 2014, Dr. Joseph J. Scales passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at the age of 92 years.
Left to cherish his memory are five children, Jeffrey (Beverly), Joseph (Mary), Diane (Warren) Blair, Vanessa (Norman) Cowley and Paul (Andrea)–semicolon– 11 grandchildren, Adam (Marieke), Grant (Nicole), Alanna, Bradley (Angella), Kimberley (Phil), Vanessa (Dustin), Dana, Blair, Lauren, Maximilian and Zachary as well as three great grandchildren, Riley, Jackson and Pia. Joseph was predeceased by his wife Theresa and grandson Cameron.
Born in Sarnia Ontario, Joe completed his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Toronto and was later granted a Fellowship in Anesthesia by McGill University. Joe completed his internship at the Edmonton General Hospital and later joined the staff where he worked for most of his 45 year career. During his internship, he met a nursing student, Theresa Wadden, who became his loving wife of almost 65 years. In 1956, they built a house in Edmonton where they raised 5 children and Joe continued to live until his passing. Joe and Theresa were formidable ballroom dance partners, spent many summers enjoying and working on their lakeshore cabin and were blessed with many long term friendships. Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a passion for wood working and building.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9830 – 148 Street, Edmonton, AB. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, 14611 Mark Messier Trail, Edmonton.
