“The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature.
To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.”
It is with deep sadness that the family of Leonard Vigneau announce his passing on October 15, 2020 at the age of 92 years. Leonard passed away peacefully at the Sturgeon Community Hospital surrounded by his sons, Ray and Gary with family nearby.
Leonard was born in Jarvie, AB and grew up working on the family homestead as the oldest of 4 children. At an early age, Leonard started his career as a seedsman with Steele Robertson. In his various travels over Alberta and BC, Leonard discovered Athabasca girl, Georgina Spence who would be his wife for 56 years until her passing in 2011. In 1958 he opened his own seed and garden centre Apache Seeds Limited which is still a part of the community today.
Leonard loved spending time in the garden and even more so attending the various sporting events and functions of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Leonard will be lovingly remembered by his three sons, Paul, Raymond (Margaret), Gary (June); six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; his sisters, Germaine Bedell and Jeanette (Frank) Bruchal; as well as numerous family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alphonse and Juliette; as well as his brother, Robert.
A Private Family gathering to celebrate his life will be held in the spring; a time in which Leonard loved to plan, cultivate and sow his garden.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the care he received at the Sturgeon Community Hospital and McConachie Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leonard may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
