It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved son, husband, brother, father and grandfather, John Steffensen on June 30th, 2015 at the age of 66 years. John will be deeply missed by his wife of 44 years, Shelley Steffensen (Baxter)–semicolon– daughters, Dana Steffensen (Jamie Henderson) and Jaime MacKenzie (Scott)–semicolon– mother Ulla Steffensen–semicolon– sister, Jo-Anne Steffensen–semicolon– grandchildren, Sydney, Samuel and Matthew–semicolon– nephew Todd–semicolon– beloved dog MacLeod–semicolon– and numerous other family members both in Canada and abroad in Denmark. He was predeceased by his father Vern.
Born in 1948 in Aarhus, Denmark, John immigrated with his family to Winnipeg, Manitoba in the early 1950s where he was raised and studied business at the University of Manitoba. He began an illustrious career as a Management Consultant, and married Shelley in 1970 – welcoming daughter Dana that same year. In 1976 following the birth of second daughter Jaime, the family moved to Edmonton and John worked to become a highly sought after and well respected consultant, first with Hickling Johnston, then as a Founding Partner of Western Management Consultants.
John was larger than life and throughout his career he made many friends who grew to love him dearly.
John loved to golf and spend time at the Derrick Club with his friends. He was also very involved in the community, coaching both fastball and basketball teams for over 20 years. He also loved reading and spending time with Shelley and his family. He was a guiding light for many, a mentor and a coach – he will be sorely missed by all.
A private prayer service will be held in Edmonton on July 6, followed by a family service at Twin Lakes Beach in Manitoba. A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of unit 5F2 at the University of Alberta Hospital, and the family and friends that have supported them during John’s illness.
“Don’t forget to remember me, and the love that used to be, I will remember you, I love you. In my heart lies a memory to tell the stars above, don’t forget to remember me my love.” -Barry Gibb

I was so saddened to read of John’s passing. Throughout my career as a management consultant, John was always there and while we didn’t connect often, I appreciated knowing that I could call on him for his sage advice, if needed. Our profession has lost one of its best. Linda Banister
