It is with great sadness that Joan’s family announces her passing on December 21, 2014. Joan’s life was defined by family, faith and music. Joan and Patrick Dea were happily married for 58 years and had seven children: Murray (Beth Alexander), Janet (Greg Finley), Stephanie, Catherine (Ken Code), Joan (Lionel Conacher), Thomas (Annette Rockwell) and Helen–semicolon– who extended the circle with 18 grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her siblings, Winnifred (David Rimstad), Sister Stephanie (Beatrice), John (Dianne), and Lawrence (Elvira)–semicolon– her nieces, nephews and her many friends. She loved, nurtured and blessed them all. Her music and faith were her gifts to others in service, celebration and need. Her lifelong commitment to music and St. Andrew Catholic Church, was a cornerstone in her life. Simply saying she sang, soloed, and directed the St. Andrew’s choir for over 60 years, barely hints at her impact and devotion. She was predeceased by her parents William and Stefania Schmidts.
The family would like to thank Marilyn Eldon, loving caregiver, as well as the staff at the Villa Caritas Hospital for all of their care and compassion.
A Prayer Service will be held at Connelly McKinley Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton, on December 29, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12810-111 Avenue, Edmonton, on December 30, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta & Northwest Territories, 10531 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, T5H 4K1.

I am so sorry for your loss. The photo of Joan looks exactly how I remember her with a tinkle in her eye. My favorite memory is of all the family coming over to Grandma Alice”s place after church, girls hair all done in ringlets and Sunday dresses, big smiles and dimples. I know she will be missed. Love to you all. Jen
