With great sadness, we announce the passing of James W. Kennedy on May 25, 2020, at the age of 88 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Lillian (Dave), Marianne, Jim (Mary), Anita, John (Myriam), Joe (Diana) and Chris; grandchildren, Emilia, Matthew, Josef, Michalann, Jacob, Carl, Rhema and Sima; great-grandchildren, Sadie, Annika, Ruby, Sybille and Oliver; and siblings, Grace Kaldenhoven, Edward (Lucy) Kennedy, Kathy (Art) Robinson and Gloria Wilkinson.
He was predeceased by his wife Annemarie in 2017, his parents James and Edna, and his sister Mary Metzger.
Jim was born in Okotoks and grew up on a farm near Red Deer. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of eighteen, learned the trade of electrician, and spent his entire career in the services, including two UN peace-keeping missions, until his retirement at the age of fifty-five. In 1955, while stationed in Germany, Jim met Annemarie while visiting friends in Austria. They married and raised seven children together.
Jim was a devoted husband and father, and always thinking of others. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors, which he instilled in his children with camping, hiking and cross-country skiing trips. Jim was an active volunteer in the church and the community for most of his life.
The family would like to thank Dr. Judit Pungur for her compassionate care of Jim over many years.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held. A public Funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
