Jack Rolland Smart passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2021 in Edmonton at the age of 70 years.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Jacklyn Smart; brothers, Dwayne and David; sister, Kathy, ex-wife, Jennette Paras and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Christine and Melvin Smart.
Jack was born in Edmonton and became a member of the Edmonton Police Services where he served 21 years of his life. He was a well-respected Police Officer; a job he loved and took great pride in. He had good taste in music, his favorite singer was no other than “The King” Elvis Presley. He would copy his hair style and loved to sing his songs. One of his favourite lines was from Elvis “TCB” which means taking care of business which he always did. He always took care of business in his own way.
He certainly lived life on his own terms and paved his own way, popular with some more than with others. He always found a way to do what he wanted. His proudest achievement in life was bringing his daughter, Jacklyn Smart to Canada who lovingly supported him physically and emotionally until their last days together. A blessing for both Jack and Jacklyn.

Jack and I started in police training class #37 on August 7, 1973. In 1975, our register numbers were re-assigned. He became #700, mine was #701. I guess he beat me by one push-up! Although I never worked with Jack, he and I remained good friends throughout the years. May he rest in peace.

Truly sad news. Jack was a great partner and I could always depend on him. We worked very well together and both knew what the other was going to do without even talking to each other. Jack will be the first one there if you needed help. RIP Jack.

Dwayne, David, Kathy, Jacklyn,
Back in the day a group of us grew up together in the working class neighborhood around Canora and Britannia schools in Jasper Place. Jack, Brian, Merle, myself and others went to school together from elementary through to high school. It seems we were always doing things from playing football to chumming around. Early adulthood steered us each down life’s separate pathways but we still managed to keep in touch. Ultimately the passage of time took its toll on maintaining close connection, but not on a friendship firmly established on shared good memories and experiences. As he was a good friend to many, Jack was, and forever shall be my good friend. I wish I had told him so.
My deepest condolences to you, Dwayne, David, Kathy, and Jacklyn.
