She was predeceased by her parents, Vieno and Olavi Ritala of Finnish descent.
Irma was born and raised in Timmins, Ontario and grew up on a farm with her 2 sisters. Aspiring to become a nurse, she attended the Plummer Memorial Public Hospital School of Nursing in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, and proudly graduated with a silver medal in 1964, She then met Ronald Diotte on a blind date and they fell madly in love and were married shortly after in 1965. Irma left the Nursing profession to raise her 3 children, but never stopped being a “Nurse” and caregiver to her family and so many others in her life.
A True Angel on Earth. Lepää rauhassa (Rest in Peace), paljon rakkautta (much love).
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Royal Alexandra Robbin’s Pavilion cardiac intensive care unit for their compassion and care.
At Irma’s request, there will be no service taking place.

I’m truly saddened by my sister-in-law’s death. She truly was one of the most giving, kind person on who has ever walked the face of the earth. Irma was always thinking of others before herself and had a heart of gold. While it’s very sad she’s left this earth I’m so glad that she is no longer in pain. Rest in peace, Irma.
(I remember when the cake photo of Irma and my brother Ron was taken at our boyhood home I was just a young kid.)

I met Irma when I was a child and I remember her being very kind and having a great sense of humour – especially when teasing the kids with funny stories. Irma had a big heart and a great laugh and she and Ronald raised three beautiful and kind people. My heart goes out to Irma’s family and friends and I hope the good memories and love will bring you comfort over time. Your friend, Jacquie
