It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of Helen on October 3, 2015 at the age of 75 years. She had Ray by her side, her loving husband and partner of 53 years, and was surrounded by her family at home at the end of a long struggle with cancer.
Ray will forever love and cherish his “sweetie”–semicolon– Helen will be forever remembered by her 4 sons: Greg (Karen), Terry (Jane), Paul, Mark (Diane)–semicolon– and her wonderful legacy of 10 grandchildren who were her pride and joy: Nathan, Matthew, Sarah, Nicole, Sean, Ashleigh, Nicholas, Ryan, Evan and Peter–semicolon– and siblings, Ted (Joan), Shirley (Terry), and Corey (Chris)–semicolon– and numerous dear friends and extended family. Helen was predeceased by parents, Joseph and Ann Lesnik–semicolon– sister, Anita–semicolon– and daughter-in-law, Maura.
Helen lived with a wonderful sense of caring and of nurturing love centered in a passion for helping others, anchored in her strength of character. These qualities flowed through her life journey starting as a nurse, her marriage, then carried into motherhood, including being a foster mom, being a partner with Ray in business where she loved taking care of the needs of her work family. Her friends received her gift of genuine love, fellowship, laughter and loyal kinship.
Helen found real joy in life’s simple things such as her flowers, hummingbirds, fixing and decorating around the house, morning coffee, the Gull Lake cabin, a good crossword puzzle, watching sports, hosting a wonderful meal, and sharing a funny story with her beautiful laugh. Those simple joys, grounded in her strong Catholic faith and closeness with her Lord, created a wonderful energy that we all could see in her big brown eyes. Helen was known as “one special lady” with her loving smile.
Heartfelt thanks go out to: Dr. Brian McPeak and Nora Hui of the Dominion Health Center and Dr. Joan Faily and Belinda C. of the Homecare Palliative Team for all of their compassionate support of Helen and her family.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2015 at Providence Renewal Centre, 3005-119 Street, Edmonton. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to WINGS of Providence, P.O. Box 32141, Edmonton, AB, T6K 4C2.
