It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Opleta of St. Albert, Alberta at the age of 63 years.
Gordon is survived by his sister Karen (Kent) Madsen, and his nephews, Joshua and Tyler. He was predeceased by his parents, Allan and Ethel. The family would like to thank the medical team in the ICU and on Unit 27 at the Sturgeon Hospital for their compassionate care while Gordon was in the hospital.
Gordon was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and took great pride in his job at Versatech Industries which he held for many years. He loved to travel, especially to Hawaii, and would spend weeks planning his trips. Gordon was one of the first athletes from Winnipeg to compete in the Special Olympics, first in swimming and then in bowling and softball. After moving to St. Albert in 2005, he was truly fortunate to become part of the Lo-Se-Ca Foundation family and to make so many new friends. He was also very happy to be able to continue with the activities that he so loved – working, swimming, and travelling. Gordon was loved by so many, and his gentle and loving spirit will be missed. As our hearts are aching, we take comfort that Gordon, our “Superman”, is finally flying.
A Memorial Service for Gordon will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive in St. Albert.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Lo-Se-Ca Foundation, 215-1 Carnegie Drive, St. Albert, AB, T8N 5B1 or via the website: www.loseca.ca
